Let's change the world by inspiring young minds to keep doing cool things with STEM!

Jay Flores is a Global STEM Ambassador, founder of Invent The Change and a star on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior! He is the host of PBS’s innovation show Make48 and starred on shows for Telemundo and ESPN. Combined he has starred in over 75 episodes of primetime television.

Jay is one of the most influential voices in STEM reaching millions of students every month as a member of Discovery Education’s Mystery Science Team. In his role as a Mystery Science Guide Jay nurtures curiosity by answering questions submitted by students like “How is ice cream made?”, “How were LEGO bricks invented?” and “Why don’t people fall out of roller coasters when they go upside down?”

The power of STEM, Jay advocates, can help young girls and boys become super heroes, solve big (and little) problems and contribute their best ideas to improve our planet.

As a Global STEM Ambassador, Jay knows just how important STEM is to the future of the world. He’s spreading the word through his energizing presentations and outreach to schools, community groups and industry experts. As a keynote speaker, Jay is masterful in connecting STEM to everyday life and motivating students to become tomorrow’s innovators.

In 2019, Jay brought STEM to the mainstream media as a star on Telemundo’s athletic competition show Exatlon Estados Unidos. His servant leadership along with his passion for inspiring young people to overcome obstacles and excel in STEM earned him the nickname “Corazón de Oro” (Heart of Gold).

In 2020, when the world came to a stop, STEM events were put on pause and parents had to become science teachers overnight Jay created one of the most innovative brands in STEM education: “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!” He is using the entertainment factor of magic to increase excitement and awareness in STEM with science experiments disguised as magic tricks! Each experiment is as entertaining as it is educational and is fun for all ages.

In 2022, after 10 years of rejected applications and failed walk-on attempts in multiple cities Jay finally got the call to compete on American Ninja Warrior! He brought the message STEM and perseverance to the big stage and inspired young minds to invent the change they want to see in the world! His semifinals course run which aired on NBC and is available on Hulu started with an “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!” experiment that blew the minds of the announcers and audience members. It also served as a launching point for the “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!” live tour! The live performance show is reaching thousands of students across the country and they all take home an “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!’ kit with them to keep exploring with family!

Jay holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His high energy and intellect have been recognized by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), who elected Jay when he was 19 years old as the youngest voting national board member in SHPE history. He served 5 years on the SHPE national board and has contributed to a wide variety of state, national and global STEM advisory boards.

Jay lives in the Miami area, but travels frequently for speaking engagements and to compete at an international level in Obstacle Course Racing. Learn more about Jay’s devotion to STEM by watching “WHY Everyone is Born an Engineer: Jay Flores at TEDx UW Madison” on YouTube.
